When a team can come together with a collective goal, great things can be accomplished. When that team gives its energy to serve their community, lives can be changed.
Lamar Whitehead, SUI Director of Operations, and a group of SUI team members volunteered their time through SUI’s Bettering the Community Service Initiative, a program where employees of Steamboat Group can use 10 hours of community service time per year to support 501c3 causes close to their hearts.
One of the team members had previously volunteered at Feed More, a nonprofit organization that collects, prepares, and distributes food to bring hunger relief to neighbors in need throughout Central Virginia. Lamar thought this would be perfect for his team.
“It meant the world seeming my team volunteering their time helping others who are less fortunate,” Lamar said. “I always say, ‘It’s the little things that makes a big difference.’ And I appreciate them all making a difference within our community.”
Suzanne Pettigrew, Lender Solutions Representative II at SUI, was one of the team members who served at Feed More.
“I have heard of this organization and its positive and growing need in our area to help with ongoing struggles of hunger with families and the elderly,” Suzanne said. “It meant a lot personally to help be a part of the solution – to help those in need and to hopefully encourage others to do the same as well. Simple acts of kindness can go a long way to help others.”
