BALTIMORE, Md., APRIL 12, 2010 — Retired General Colin Powell talked about leadership to a packed ballroom of more than 500 program administrators at the annual Mid-Year meeting of the Target Markets Program Administrators Association.
General Powell, USA (Ret.) drew on examples garnered from his experience as a military, government and civic leader, and as an eyewitness to leadership in action. He also was able to use his experience on the board of directors of a mutual insurance company to make his remarks even more relevant to the TMPAA members. He explained what he thinks it takes to be a great leader and offered strategies for “taking charge” during times of historic change and challenging crises.
The keynote address by General Powell was sponsored by TMPAA members: insurance carrier York Programs and law firm Wilson Elser. Bill Kronenberg, TMPAA President, said, “One of our missions is to support and encourage the leadership abilities of our members in program business, and provide examples for the next generation of program business leaders,” Kronenberg said. “General Powell exemplifies many of the leadership qualities to which we aspire. We all appreciated him sharing his insights with our group.”
In addition to General Powell’s presentation, the TMPAA also conducted special sessions with members such as “Social Media and Online Marketing,” and “Captive Development for Program Administrator Errors & Omissions,” among others. Decision-makers from more than 50 insurance carriers met with Program Administrators to discuss business opportunities.
