Chief Compliance Officer
Kirk Stephens is the Chief Compliance Officer and a member of the Senior Leadership Team for Steamboat Group, where he spearheads the company’s industry-leading compliance, governance, and quality control best practices. He also provides risk management and compliance advisory services to financial service providers.
With over 36 years of regulatory experience, including 20 years with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Kirk is a distinguished veteran in the field. At the FDIC, he rose through various roles, culminating as Senior Advisor to the Senior Deputy Director of Supervisory Examinations. During the worst financial crisis in modern times, he directly helped mitigate risk to the FDIC’s insurance fund by assisting the national Supervisory Examinations office with both safety and soundness and consumer protection oversight.
Before joining the FDIC’s management team, Kirk served as a Case Manager in the Atlanta Regional Office and instructed FDIC assistant examiners on safety and soundness principles. A Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) through the American Bankers Association’s (ABA) Institute of Certified Bankers, Kirk is an active member of the ABA’s Flood Insurance Working Group and has served on numerous financial services trade industry boards and committees. He holds a BBA degree in finance with honors from Marshall University and is a distinguished graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking held at Georgetown University.
